May 16, 2013 - discussed how the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) had informed Associated Press that federal prosecutors had obtained the phone records for 20 mobile and home telephone lines assigned to AP reporters and editors in three states in Law360. In the article, "AP Records Seizure Fuels Push to Limit Gov't Snooping," Huggard said, "There's a big difference between nonmedia companies and the media. The government has very broad subpoena powers with regard to most companies, but the government is only supposed to subpoena media sources and telephone records if there is no other way to get the information they need, and can only issue the subpoena after negotiations with the company."
